Multi-color printing requires more skill and experience because the individual colors must be separated for printing. While software products like PageMaker and Freehand may make it look like an easy task, there are unfortunately many hidden pitfalls which can cause difficulties for the inexperienced. This is especially true when the original is to be output to a high-resolution imagesetter, or even when it is to be output to a laser printer which is different from the one used by the person who created it.
Submitting your original on disk may seem like the most straightforward approach, but it can be problematic for the inexperienced. Unless the computer and printer or imagesetter and software used to create the final output are identical to the computer setup upon which it was created, unexpected differences can be introduced into the final product. This will almost always occur if the two computers have different installed fonts and/or the originator neglects to include all linked files on the disk. Submitting your original on disk may work well for you, but if you have the means to produce camera-ready originals on your laser printer or at a service bureau, you will almost always end up with fewer delays and budget overruns. The latter approach also eliminates the need for a proof, (and often an additional day or more), since you see the original before it goes to the printer. EcoGraphics works closely with ArtWorks, a local service bureau which is equipped to handle any and all your prepress needs from design to color trapping and imagesetting. Please visit their web site for further details and instructions for electronic submission. Be sure to indicate that the job will be printed by EcoGraphics so that they will notify us when it is ready to go to press.
